Shared Loss

Title: Shared Loss
Characters: Théodred and Éomer
Rating: G
Warnings: Character death, and therefore angst
Book/Source: Morwen is mentioned in Appendix A
Disclaimer: Don't own 'em, not for profit
Notes: Two cousins mourn the loss of their grandmother. Morwen's death is not recorded, but in my universe, she died when Théodred was twenty one and Éomer was eight. A drabble written for the [livejournal.com profile] tolkien_weekly Endings challenge. Also for prompt 066 Rain for [livejournal.com profile] fanfic100. Disclaimer nicked from Seleneheart and Ribby. The Morwen that lives in my head was born after reading Steelsheen by [livejournal.com profile] seleneheart and her character is explored a little more here

Théodred stayed at her graveside long after he thought everyone else had gone, head bowed against the steady drizzle.

She had shown him the strength in women, been a mother to him, a true daughter of Rohan despite her Gondorian blood.

A small hand slipped into his and serious hazel eyes stared up at him.

“I will miss her too.”

Théodred nodded, smiling sadly.

“And if she were here, she would scold us both for standing out in the rain.”

Together they returned to the Golden Hall to hear the songs that would be sung in her honour that night.
